Practice problem vocabulary using tongue twisters. If you have a problem with 'l' and 'r' try saying 'Around the ragged rock the ragged rascal ran.' until you perfect it. Laughing

Hi i am from Malaysia and english is not my first language. I always have had difficulty to pronounce"Sheep" and "Ship" , "Beach" and "Bitch" distinctly. Hence, sometimes people might get me wrong and think that i am swearing Embarassed Any tips for improving pronunciation and accent???? Razz

Hi Way,
This kind of problem is not unusual amongst learners of English as a second language. It all depends on how long you draw out the vowel sound - Sheep has a longer 'EE - speed' sound while ship has a much shorter, 'i - if' sound. The most valuable tool would be the phonetic alphabet. Have you tried the lesson called 'The Phonetic Alphabet' under the speaking section of EVOLVE? This has helped many of my students.
